Best Time to Fly to Greece: Month-by-Month Guide
When to fly to Greece for the best balance of weather, prices, and crowds — Athens, the islands, and the mainland breakdown.
The Greek shoulder season
Late April through early June is reliably warm in mainland Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki) and increasingly warm on the islands. Sea temperatures climb by late May. Crowd levels are a fraction of July-August.
Mid-September through early October is the other prime window — sea temperatures are at peak, crowds thin out after Labor Day, and indicative fares often drop sharply.
Peak summer: when to avoid it (and when not to)
July and August deliver the deepest beach scene on islands like Mykonos, Santorini, and Ios, but indicative fares spike and accommodation prices double or triple. If you only have summer weeks available, target the first half of July or the second half of August.
Winter: cheaper, quieter, very different
December through February is the cheapest window but is genuinely off-season — many island businesses close. Athens, Thessaloniki, and Crete remain comfortable winter destinations.
